The 1975 Brazilian Grand Prix took place in São Paulo on January 26th and was the second race of the 1975 World Automobile Championship .
Reports
background
The entry list for the second round of the World Championship of the year corresponded exactly to that of the Argentine Grand Prix two weeks earlier, which was unusual at the time due to the fact that the Concorde Agreement did not yet exist .
There was only speculation about a change of Ronnie Peterson from Lotus to Shadow due to the lack of competitiveness of the technically obsolete Lotus 72 , which however turned out to be incorrect.
Wilson Fittipaldi entered his home race with a new car because the first car was badly damaged in an accident and subsequent fire when it was first used in Argentina.
training
Jean-Pierre Jarier undercut last year's best time in practice by around three seconds, securing his second pole position in a row, just ahead of the reigning world champion Emerson Fittipaldi . This was followed by Carlos Reutemann and Niki Lauda . Carlos Pace and Clay Regazzoni formed another row, which consisted of a Brabham and a Ferrari , directly behind their respective teammates .
Without knowing that this would be his last successful qualification in Formula 1, Graham Hill reached 20th place on the grid.
run
The Brabham works drivers Reutemann and Pace had the best start, while Fittipaldi got off his starting position with comparatively little difficulty due to the wheels spinning too much. Before the first corner, Reutemann was ahead of Jarier, Pace, Regazzoni, Lauda and Jody Scheckter .
On the fifth lap, Jarier regained the lead from Reutemann and gained a lead. On lap 14, Pace also passed his team mate, who had meanwhile been struggling with tire problems. In the course of the following laps, these left the Argentine behind Regazzoni, Fittipaldi, Lauda and Jochen Mass .
With ten laps to go and 25 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Jarier's engine began to misfire. The problems worsened, so that the Frenchman retired on lap 33. This cleared the way for Pace's first and only Grand Prix victory, which he was also able to celebrate in front of a home crowd. To the delight of the audience, Fittipaldi completed a Brazilian one-two at home. During the last third of the race he had passed Regazzoni, who had also had problems with his tires due to the heat that was prevailing on race day. As a result, the Swiss also lost third place in Mass a little later, which thus achieved his first podium finish in Formula 1.
