The 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix (officially Formula 1 Grande Prêmio do Brasil 2013 ) took place on November 24th at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in São Paulo and was the 19th race of the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship .

Reports

background

After the US Grand Prix , Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' standings with 145 points ahead of Fernando Alonso and 185 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton . Red Bull-Renault led in the constructors' championship with 205 points ahead of Mercedes and 220 points ahead of Ferrari . Vettel and Red Bull-Renault were already established as world champions ahead of time.

At the Brazilian Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Hard (orange) and P Zero Medium (white) as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions . In addition, the drivers each received two sets of the next season's medium mix for Friday.

With Felipe Massa , Mark Webber (twice each), Jenson Button and Vettel (once each), four former winners competed in this Grand Prix.

It was Webber's last Grand Prix.

Paul Gutjahr (SUI), Felipe Giaffone (BRA), Alex Dias Ribeiro (BRA) and Vincenzo Spano (VEN) acted as race commissioners .

training

The three training sessions all took place in the rain. In the first practice session, Nico Rosberg was the fastest driver ahead of Hamilton and Vettel. This training took James Calado the Force India of Paul di Resta , Daniil Kwjat the Toro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo and Rodolfo González the Marussia of Max Chilton . In the second free practice, Rosberg stayed in the lead. Vettel came second, Webber third. Due to the rain, the new tire compounds were not used.

In the third free practice session, Webber took the lead in front of Romain Grosjean and Heikki Kovalainen . Four drivers - including Rosberg - did not set any time because they were sparing tires.

Qualifying

Qualifying also took place in the wet. Hamilton drove the fastest lap in the first segment. The Marussia and Caterham pilots as well as Esteban Gutiérrez and Pastor Maldonado were eliminated. Grosjean was fastest in the second section. Sergio Pérez lost control of his vehicle shortly before the end of the section and hit the wall. The Force India and McLaren pilots as well as Valtteri Bottas and Kovalainen were eliminated. The third segment took place after a break, as it had rained heavily at first. Vettel finally achieved pole position in front of Rosberg and Alonso.

run

Vettel scored a start-to-finish victory ahead of Webber and Alonso. He scored his ninth straight win. He set a new record for a winning streak within a season and drew level with Alberto Ascari across all seasons .
