The Caterham CT03 is the fourth Formula 1 - racing car of Caterham F1 Team (formerly Lotus) and the second with the chassis name Caterham . The vehicle will be used in the 2013 Formula 1 season and was presented to the public on February 5, 2013 at the Circuito de Jerez .

Technology and development

The CT03 is the successor to the CT01 . The designation CT02 was not skipped, but used by a Caterham street sports car. Although the FIA allows a so-called vanity screen, Caterham does not use it. This still gives the car a "nasal hump" that is viewed as unaesthetic. The CT03 is powered by a Renault V8 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters, which develops an output of around 550 kW (≈750 hp). The transmission and KERS come from Red Bull Racing .

Like all Formula 1 vehicles of the 2013 season, the CT03 is equipped with KERS and DRS .

The CT03 is essentially an evolution of the CT01, but has some major changes. The side pods have been significantly redesigned to improve airflow at the rear. In addition, the diffuser , engine cover, cooling air outlets, the wind deflectors in front of the side pods and the underbody have also been changed.

The positioning of the exhaust has also been revised. Other teams, however, see the routing of the exhaust gases to the underbody as a violation of the FIA's technical regulations, which prohibit the use of exhaust gases for aerodynamic purposes.

Caterham responded to the allegations that during the third test drives before the season on the Circuit de Catalunya , the exhaust air duct was changed and the horizontal flap above the exhaust shaft was no longer there.

Painting and sponsorship

The base coat of the CT03 is green, in contrast to the previous model, a significantly lighter color is used. The front and rear wings of the racing car are black. There are also yellow color accents. Sponsor stickers come from Airbus , Air Asia , McGregor and Renault .

driver

Caterham enters the 2013 season with two new drivers. The Frenchman Charles Pic , who has already been driving for Marussia for a whole season, is joining the team. The second driver of the CT03 is the Formula 1 newcomer Giedo van der Garde , who previously drove in the GP2 series .
