The 2013 German Grand Prix (officially the 2013 Formula 1 Grand Prix Santander of Germany ) took place on July 7th at the Nürburgring in Nürburg and was the ninth race of the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship .

Reports

background

After the Grand Prix of Great Britain , Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' standings with 21 points ahead of Fernando Alonso and with 34 points ahead of Kimi Raikkonen . Red Bull-Renault led the constructors' championship with 48 points ahead of Mercedes and 51 points ahead of Ferrari .

The German Grand Prix switched regularly from the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg to the Nürburgring.

At the German Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Medium (white) and P Zero Soft (yellow) as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions . After the tire problems in the previous race, Pirelli brought new rear tires for this event that contained a Kevlar belt instead of a steel belt. For safety reasons, Pirelli gave the racing stables specifications on tire pressure and falls. Pirelli also prohibited the use of the right and left rear tires on the other side of the vehicle.

With Alonso (three times), Lewis Hamilton (twice) and Mark Webber (once), three former winners competed at this Grand Prix.

Detlef Kramp (GER), Radovan Novak (CZE), Emanuele Pirro (ITA) and Lars Österlind (SWE) acted as race commissioners .

training

In the first free practice session, the two Mercedes drivers drove the fastest laps. Hamilton was faster than Nico Rosberg . The third fastest lap was achieved by Webber. Alonso had problems with his Ferrari and did not complete a timed lap. In this training, Rodolfo González took over the Marussia from Jules Bianchi , who was paused for health reasons. In the second free practice session, Vettel took the lead in front of Rosberg and his team-mate Webber. Bianchi returned to the Marussia, but he stopped training prematurely for health reasons.

In the third free practice session, the order of the first three positions remained unchanged.

Qualifying

Felipe Massa was the fastest in the first qualifying segment. The Marussia, Caterham and Williams pilots were eliminated. In the second segment, Massa stayed ahead. The Force India pilots as well as Jean-Éric Vergne , Esteban Gutiérrez , Sergio Pérez and Nico Rosberg were eliminated. In the final section, Hamilton set the fastest time and achieved pole position in front of Vettel and Webber.

run

Vettel won the race ahead of Raikkonen and Grosjean. It was his first win at a Grand Prix in his home country, Germany.

During a pit stop during the race, the rear tire of Webber's Formula 1 racing car came off. The tire hit a cameraman in the pits. He was flown to a hospital in Koblenz with broken bones and a concussion.
