Rodolfo González (born May 14, 1986 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan automobile racing driver . He started in the GP2 series from 2009 to 2012 .

Career

After González was active in karting , he switched to the winter series of the British Formula Renault in 2002 , in which he also competed in 2003. In 2004 he started in the British Formula Renault and reached 21st place overall. He also took part in the winter series of the British Formula Renault. In the following season González stayed again in the British Formula Renault and improved in the overall standings to ninth place in the overall standings. In addition, he again took part in races of the winter series of the British Formula Renault and for the first time in some races of the Dutch Formula Renault. In 2006 González started in the national class of the British Formula 3 Championship . He won the classification in 13 of 22 races and decided the classification for himself. In 2007 González drove in the British Formula 3 Championship and was eleventh in the overall standings.

In 2008 González took part in the Formula 3 Euro Series and was 24th in the overall standings. He also took part in a Euroseries 3000 event for Sighinolfi Autoracing . He was once fourth. At the beginning of 2009 González was signed by Fisichella Motor Sport for the last four race weekends of the GP2 Asia series . As a teammate of Kevin Nai Chia Chen , he replaced Andreas Zuber . In the European GP2 series , he played a race weekend at the Nürburgring for Trident Racing as a representative for Davide Rigon . The Venezuelan did not score any points in either series. His main focus in 2009, however, was on the Euroseries 3000 , in which he finished fifth in the overall standings for Fisichella Motor Sport with a win.

In the GP2 Asia Series season 2009/2010 González participated in two race weekends. For Arden International he competed in the first run and for the Barwa Addax Team he competed in the season finale. In the overall ranking he finished 29th. For the 2010 season of the GP2 series, González received another cockpit at Arden International. After finishing the races in the back of the field, he achieved his first points in Spa-Francorchamps . At the end of the season he was in 21st place overall. After the season he completed his first Formula 1 test drives for Lotus Racing . In 2011, González was signed by Trident Racing as a team-mate of Stefano Coletti for the GP2 Asia and GP2 series. In the GP2 Asia series , he finished 17th overall without any points. In the subsequent GP2 season he remained without points and finished 26th overall, while Coletti scored victories. He also took part in an Auto GP race weekend for Campos Racing . A sixth place was his best result in the series. After the season he again took part in a Formula 1 test for Lotus.

In 2012 González switched to Caterham Racing , the GP2 team of the Formula 1 racing team Caterham (formerly Lotus), within the GP2 series . González scored only once with a fifth place as the best result and was 22nd overall, while his teammate Giedo van der Garde achieved sixth place with wins. González also took part in Formula 1 test drives for the Caterham Formula 1 team and Force India . In 2013 González was a Formula 1 test driver at Marussia . He did not contest races this year.

In 2014 González was without a fixed cockpit. He started four races in Formula Acceleration 1 for the Venezuelan team supervised by RC Motorsport . He also took part in four endurance races for Murphy Prototypes . Three times in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and once in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 2015 González competed for Dale Coyne Racing in six races of the IndyCar Series . A ninth place in Sonoma was his best result.
