history

GP3 series

2010

In 2010, the GP3 series was founded to serve as a sub-class of the GP2 series. Barwa Addax started in the GP3 series under the name Addax Team . Felipe Guimarães , Pablo Sánchez López and Mirko Bortolotti started for Addax. With eight places in the points, the team was not very successful and at the end of the season took eighth place in the overall standings.

2011

In 2011 Addax started with three new drivers. Dominic Storey , Gabby Chaves and Dean Smith started the season. Chaves was the only one who drove the entire season. Storey was replaced by Tom Dillmann after two race weekends and Smith handed over his cockpit to Vittorio Ghirelli on the last race weekend . Smith was the team's most successful driver and was twelfth overall in the drivers' standings. In the team standings, Barwa Addac again finished eighth.

Following this season, Addax ended his involvement in the GP3 series.

GP2 series

After Campos Grand Prix had won the team title in the GP2 series in 2008 , Adrián Campos withdrew from the team. The team was then taken over by Campo's previous partner Agag and renamed Barwa Addax. The name of the team is made up of the name of the main sponsor, Barwa International and " Addax ", a species of antelope whose characteristics are great speed and resilience.

2009

Vitaly Petrow 2009 at the Istanbul Park Circuit

Romain Grosjean , also test driver at Renault F1, and Vitaly Petrow , who was already active in the previous Campos team, were signed for the 2009 season . With three wins in the first three main races, both drivers started the season well and both Grosjean and Petrow were at the top of the drivers' standings. After six race weekends, Grosjean, who was second overall behind Nico Hülkenberg at the time , left the team and switched to Renault F1 in Formula 1 . From now on, Petrow was given the role of team leader and Hulkenberg rival. Davide Valsecchi was signed as the second pilot and Grosjean replacement . While Petrow was able to keep his title chances at least until the penultimate race weekend with another win, Valsecchi only managed to score points once. In the end, Petrow was runner-up behind Hülkenberg and Barwa Addax was also relegated to second place by the ART Grand Prix .

2010

In the GP2 Asia Series season 2009/2010 , the Barwa Addax team also appeared as the successor team of Campos Grand Prix. The team initially engaged the debutants Max Chilton and Luiz Razia , who had previously competed in the GP2 series for Scuderia Coloni, as drivers . Both drivers remained without points in the first race weekend. For the second race weekend, the driver pairing was completely changed so that the drivers for the GP2 main season could get to know the Abu Dhabi track. For Chilton came the Dutchman Giedo van der Garde and for Razia came Sergio Pérez . For van der Garde it was the only race weekend, and Chilton got his cockpit back. Perez also drove the third race weekend and drove the only two points in this season. On the fourth and final race weekend, Rodolfo González drove alongside Chilton. The team finished the season in tenth place overall.

Already at the end of 2009, Barwa Addax announced that the 2010 season would start with the Dutchman Giedo van der Garde and the Mexican Sergio Pérez . Both drivers drove the entire season. Pérez achieved five wins and was second in the drivers' championship. Van der Garde did not win, but made it onto the podium four times. At the end of the season he was seventh overall. In the team ranking, the team achieved second place.

2011

Giedo van der Garde 2011 in Monza

In the 2011 GP2 Asia Series season , Addax competed with Charles Pic and van der Garde. While Pic did not score any points in the two race weekends and finished the season in 18th place overall, van der Garde achieved three points and was third in the drivers' standings. In the team standings, Barwa Addax finished the overall standings in third place. In the 2011 GP2 series , the driver pairing stayed the same. Pic won twice over the course of the season and finished on the podium five times. Van der Garde also made it onto the podium five times, but was unable to win. At the end of the season Pic was fourth overall, van der Garde fifth. In the team classification, Addax secured the championship.

In addition, Addax took part in the individual event GP2 Final 2011 with drivers Jake Rosenzweig and Jolyon Palmer . Palmer came fourth here, Rosenzweig 19th.

2012

For the 2012 season , the Asia series was integrated into the main series. The Addax team started this season with a new driver line-up. Johnny cecotto jr. drove the entire season, while the second cockpit was occupied by three drivers during the season: Josef Král , Dani Clos and Jake Rosenzweig . Overall, the team won three races, but had problems consistently getting into the points. At the end of the season, the team finished eighth overall.

2013

In 2013 Rosenzweig stayed with Addax. Rio Haryanto was the second driver next to him . The team remained without points in the first four races. At the main race in Spain, Haryanto finished ninth in the points for the first time. In the following three races, both drivers remained without points. Once again it was Haryanto who finished in seventh place in the main race at Silverstone. He also defended the resulting second place on the grid in the sprint race and achieved the only podium finish of the season. By the end of the season, only Haryanto managed to get into the points once. Rosenzweig finished the season with no points in 28th place overall. Haryanto finished 19th in the team standings. Addax came 12th and penultimate place.

In 2014 the team will no longer compete in the GP2 series.
