Career

Drawing of the Formula 1 racing car Minardi M187 from 1987, driven by Adrián Campos (but with the starting number of his teammate Alessandro Nannini )

Campos drove for the small Italian Minardi team in Formula 1 in 1987 and 1988 . He made his Formula 1 debut on April 12, 1987 at the Brazilian Grand Prix . He was registered for 21 Grand Prix, was able to qualify for the start 17 times, but only crossed the finish line twice. His best placement was 14th place at his home Grand Prix, the Spanish Grand Prix , in 1987. In 1988, Minardi signed Campos again because he had good contacts to sponsors. However, after Campos missed qualifying three times in the first five races of the year, the team split from the Spaniard. Pierluigi Martini joined the team for him , who had family ties to the racing team owner Giancarlo Minardi .

After completing his career, Campos founded the motorsport team Campos Grand Prix in 1998 , which, after a few detours, took part in the GP2 series in the early 21st century . For 2010 Campos Racing received a starting place for the 2010 season of the Formula 1 World Championship, but was unable to build a sustainable structure until shortly before the start of the season. A few weeks before the first race, he sold the Formula 1 branch of the team that finally led by Colin Kolles as Hispania Racing F1 Team (HRT F1) took.
