Charlie Nearburg
Charles "Charlie" Nearburg (born September 6, 1950 in Dallas ) is an American entrepreneur, racing car driver and world speed record holder.
Entrepreneur
Charlie Nearburg attended St. Mark's School of Texas , where he graduated in 1968. After high school he attended Dartmouth College and graduated as a mechanical engineer . He founded Nearburg Exploration , one of the largest independent natural gas and oil trading companies in Texas .
Career in motorsport
Charlie Near Castle is best known as automobile - Geschwindigkeitsrekordler known. As of September 21, 2010, he has been the fastest man to have driven a wheel-drive car with a combustion engine without a supercharger. On the Great Salt Flat in Utah , he reached 666.776 km / h with the Spirit of Rett .
Nearburg was also active as a racing driver. For many years he drove in the Atlantic Championship and in 1978 was overall runner-up in the SCCA Formula A Championship. In 1997 he had three outings in the CART series for Dale Coyne Racing and in the same year competed in a Ferrari 333SP at the Le Mans 24-hour race . Teammates were Michel Ferté and Adrián Campos . The trio had to give up the race after 18 laps due to a defective fuel system. His greatest success in international sports car racing was fourth place in the Sebring 12-hour race in 1997 .
Nearburg owns a valuable automobile collection, which includes a few Bugattis and a Ferrari 250 GTO . With a McLaren M23 from this collection, he has been taking part in historic monoposto races since 2014 .
