Vittorio Ghirelli
Vittorio Ghirelli (born May 9, 1994 in Fasano ) is an Italian racing driver . He won the Auto GP in 2013 .
Career
Ghirelli began his motorsport career in karting in 2005 , where he was active until 2009. Among other things, he won the Italian KF2 Open Masters Championship in 2009 . At the age of 15, he moved in 2010 to the single-seater racing and launched directly to Formula 3 level. He made his debut at the F3 Brazil Open that he finished fifth. He then started for Atech CRS GP in the first season of the newly founded GP3 series . He remained without points and finished 34th overall. At 16, Ghirelli is the youngest racing driver in the GP3 series. Ghirelli also took part in five race weekends of the Italian Formula 3 championship for the Ghinzani team. He finished the season with no points in 23rd place. He also completed two races in the Italian Formula Renault.
In 2011 Ghirelli contested his second season in the GP3 series for Jenzer Motorsport . As he was again unable to score points, he left Jenzer Motorsport two events before the end. For the last race weekend he returned to the GP3 series for the Addax team . Ghirelli was again without points and finished the season in 25th place overall. He also competed this season for One Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and in the Alpine Formula Renault . While he finished the Eurocup with one point in 23rd place, he finished ninth in the Alpine Formula Renault with a second place as the best result. He also made a guest start for One Racing in the Northern European Formula Renault .
In 2012 Ghirelli started for Comtec Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 . While his teammate Nick Yelloly achieved fifth place with race wins, Ghirelli was 24th in the drivers' standings with an eighth place as the best result. In addition, Ghirelli took part in an event of the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2012 . He achieved sixth place in both races. In 2013 Ghirelli switched to SuperNova International in the Auto GP . He won the sprint race on the Hungaroring and the main race in Donington Park . He was on the podium in 11 of 16 races. With 222 to 213 points he prevailed against Kimiya Satō and won the championship title of the Auto GP. In addition, he rose in the current season for Venezuela GP Lazarus in the GP2 series . He played five events and was 27th overall.
In 2014 Ghirelli switched to Team Moore Racing in the North American Indy Lights . After the fourth race, he withdrew from the series. Fourth place was his best result. Later in the year he returned to Europe and competed in four races in the Auto GP for various teams. He was on the podium once with a second place.
In 2015 Ghirelli switched to touring car racing and received a cockpit in the newly founded Renault Sport Trophy at Zele Racing .
