Kimiya Sato

Kimiya Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 公 哉 , Satō Kimiya ; born October 5, 1989 in Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese automobile racing driver . He won the Auto GP in 2014 . He started in the GP2 series in 2014 .

Like most motorsport athletes , Satō began his career in karting , where he was active from 1995 to 2005. In 2006 he switched to formula racing and initially competed in Europe. In the British Formula BMW , he was tenth overall and also the second best newcomer. 2007 Satō denied his second season in the British Formula BMW for Nexa Racing. With a win, he finished the season in fourth place and scored one point more than his team-mate Valle Mäkelä .

In 2008 Satō returned to Japan and competed in the Japanese Formula Challenge. He won a race and was runner-up behind Yūji Kunimoto . He also made a guest appearance in the Pacific Formula BMW. In 2009 he moved to Team Nova in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship . In an older model he started in the national class, where he was runner-up behind Naoki Yamamoto . His best overall placement was third. 2010 Satō stayed in the national class of Japanese Formula 3 and finished fourth in the standings with a victory.

After Satō had already participated in the Macau Grand Prix for Motopark Academy in 2010 , he received a cockpit in the Formula 3 Euro Series with this racing team for the 2011 season . With a win, he finished the season in tenth place overall. In addition, Satō was entitled to points in the FIA Formula 3 Trophy 2011 . There he reached ninth place. In 2012 , Satō started for the Lotus team supervised by Motopark Academy in the German Formula 3 Cup . He won four races and finished third overall while his teammate Jimmy Eriksson won the championship title.

In 2013 , Satō switched to Auto GP at Euronova Racing . He won five races and was on the podium a total of nine times. With 213 to 222 points he was defeated by Vittorio Ghirelli and became runner-up. He also completed test drives for the Sauber Formula 1 racing team . In 2014 , Satō stayed in the Auto GP with Euronova Racing. He won six races and won the championship early. With 221 to 207 points he was ahead of Tamás Pál Kiss at the end of the season . In addition, Satō received a cockpit in the GP2 series at Campos Racing in 2014 . While his teammate Arthur Pic was seventh with 124 points, Satō reached 27th overall with two points. In both racing series, Satō waived at least one event to participate.
