The 2010 Macau Grand Prix was the 57th Macau Grand Prix . It took place on November 21, 2010 at the Guia Circuit in Macau .

Reports

background

At the Macau Grand Prix 2010, 30 drivers from the British Formula 3 Championship , the German Formula 3 Cup , the European F3 Open , the Formula 3 Euro Series , the Formula Renault 3.5 , the GP3 Series and the Japanese Formula competed -3 championship . Last year's winner Edoardo Mortara , who won the Formula 3 Euro Series this season, as well as Jean-Éric Vergne , the British Formula 3 champion, and Yūji Kunimoto , the Japanese Formula 3 champion, started among others this race.

13 pilots started with Volkswagen , 12 pilots with Mercedes-Benz , 3 pilots with Toyota - and 1 each with Honda and Nissan engines.

Qualifying

In the first qualifying on Thursday, Mortara set the fastest lap ahead of Valtteri Bottas and his team-mate Marco Wittmann . After qualifying, various pilots were penalized five positions for ignoring yellow flags. The second qualifying session was postponed from Friday to Saturday due to accidents in other racing series that were also represented in Macau. Mortara also achieved the fastest lap here, ahead of Bottas. Laurens Vanthoor went third . The pole position of the qualifying race thus went to Mortara. Bottas and Vanthoor followed in second and third place.

Qualifying race

In the qualifying race, in which the starting grid for the race was determined, Mortara won. The Signature driver achieved a start-to-finish victory in front of his teammates Vanthoor and Daniel Abt . While Mortara's top position was only in jeopardy at the start, Vanthoor first had to overtake Abt. Vanthoor achieved this in the third round. Abt finally managed to keep Bottas behind him and finished in third place. Only drivers from the Formula 3 Euro Series were in the first five positions. Renger van der Zande (GP3 series) was the best driver from another championship.

The winner Mortara then classified the victory of the qualifying race as follows: “My start wasn't that good, but I was able to repeat the lead on the first lap. When my lead was big enough, I reduced some speed. This victory is nice, but it is really important tomorrow, because only then is the main race of the weekend on the program. "

run

Mortara initially retained the lead in Macau. After the restart after a safety car phase, Abt took over the lead of the race. However, Abt retired while in the lead after an accident. The 17-year-old racing driver suddenly had understeer in a left turn, hit the right guardrail and took a left. Then Vanthoor was in a lead until he was overtaken by Mortara after the restart after another safety car phase. Mortara managed to further increase his lead in the following laps and he finally won the race. Vanthoor was second ahead of Bottas. Mortara is the first driver to win the Formula 3 race in Macau for the second time.

Mortara was delighted with the win as follows: “To be the first driver to win the Macau Grand Prix twice in a row feels great and is a great honor. But it was not an easy game for me and there was strong competition this year as well. Laurens Vanthoor and Daniel Abt asked everything from me. When I was finally in front, I gave 120 percent to set myself apart from the pursuers and take home the win. "
