Laurens Vanthoor
Laurens Vanthoor (born May 8, 1991 in Hasselt ) is a Belgian racing driver . He was the overall winner of the German Formula 3 in 2009 . In 2010 and 2011 he competed in the Formula 3 Euro Series .
Career
Vanthoor began his motorsport career in karting in 2002 , where he was active until 2007. Among other things, he won the French and Belgian junior championship titles in 2005. In 2008 the young racing driver switched to the German Formula 3 Cup for the Dutch team Van Amersfoort Racing . With two wins and a further seven podium finishes, he finished fourth overall at the end of the season. He also finished sixth in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix , which also made him the youngest participant in the history of the race. In 2009 Vanthoor stayed with Van Amersfoort Racing and contested his second season in the German Formula 3 Cup. With eleven wins he dominated the championship ahead of his teammate Stef Dusseldorp . Vanthoor was the first driver in 18 years to win the German Formula 3 title with a Volkswagen engine. This was the last time the Dane Tom Kristensen succeeded.
In 2010 Vanthoor started for the French racing team Signature in the Formula 3 Euro Series . At the end of the season he finished sixth overall with three second places as the best results. In 2011 Vanthoor stayed with Signature and contested his second season in the Formula 3 Euro Series. With two second places as the best placements, Vanthoor was the second-best Volkswagen driver and sixth in the drivers' standings. He was also entitled to points in the 2011 FIA Formula 3 Trophy . With a third place as the best result, he reached fifth place there. After the season, Vanthoor took part in DTM test drives for Audi .
In 2015 Laurens Vanthoor won the 43rd ADAC Zurich 24h race from the Nürburgring in an Audi R8 LMS as the overall winner together with Christopher Mies , Heiligenhaus, Edward Sandström, Switzerland and Nico Müller , Switzerland .
With the number 1, he also takes part in the 44th ADAC Zurich 24h race from the Nürburgring together with Christopher Mies, Nico Müller and Pierre Kaffer , again on an Audi R8 LMS (2016).
Vanthoor has been a works driver at Porsche since 2017 . In 2018 he reached pole position in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring for the Manthey-Racing team . In the race, his car broke down due to an accident. He was also able to win the GTE-PRO class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans .
