Le Mans 24-hour race 2019

The 87th 24-hour race of Le Mans , the 87 e Grand Prix d'Endurance les 24 Heures du Mans , also called 24 Heures du Mans , took place on June 15 and 16, 2019 on the Circuit des 24 Heures .
The race
As in the year before the two were plant - Toyota TS050 Hybrid the dominant vehicles in the main for the overall LMP1 class , even if the distance to the competition was not as great as 2018. Again there was a Toyota one-two, again in the order Sébastien Buemi / Kazuki Nakajima / Fernando Alonso (Toyota # 8) ahead of Mike Conway / Kamui Kobayashi / José María López (Toyota # 7). Until an hour before the end of the race, the number 7 car was leading by a clear lead of more than two minutes over the sister car when a tire damage reversed the ranking. Lopez came to the Toyota box with a creeping puncture, where the mechanics changed the wrong tire. Because of a faulty sensor display, they swapped the right front tire instead of the right rear tire. Lopez had to do another lap with the almost airless tire and lost the lead to Nakajima. The Toyota team management under Hisatake Murata , Rob Leupen and Pascal Vasselon discussed a stable order that could bring the car with the number 7 back into the lead, but ultimately decided against it.
Invitations
In November 2018, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest published the invitation list for the 24-hour race. The class winners of the previous year's race , the overall winners of the European Le Mans Series , the Asian Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup were automatically eligible to start . Another invitation went to the winner of the LMGTE class of the European Le Mans Series. The ACO selected two participants from the starters of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship . The choice fell on the drivers Mikhail Goikhberg and Ben Keating . Since no GT3 cars are allowed to start in Le Mans, the winners of the Michelin Le Mans Cup must register a vehicle from the LMGT-Am class.
On February 11, 2019, the ACO published the first starting list. On March 1, 2019, a starter list with all 60 starters and 10 reserve vehicles was published.

As in previous years, the ACO published a list of reserve vehicles at the same time as the start list. Nominated in the list from one to ten, the vehicles move up in this order for failures in the original starting list.
