Roberto González Valdez , also known as Roberto González junior , (born March 31, 1976 in Monterrey ) is a Mexican racing driver . He started in the Champ Car World Series in 2003 and 2004 .

Career

González began his motorsport career in 1990 in kart racing , in which he remained active until 1994. In 1994 he switched to formula racing . He started from 1994 to 1996 in the Mexican Formula 3 Championship , 1997 in the Mexican Formula 2 Championship and from 1998 to 2000 in the Pan-American Indy Lights .

In 2001 González moved to Europe and drove in the one-off Formula Chrysler Euroseries . Together with his younger brother Ricardo , he competed for Alpie Motorsport . He won two races and finished all eight races in the top four. At the end of the season he was defeated by Ricardo van der Ende with 121 to 106 points and was second overall. Against his brother, who finished fourth with 55 points, internally. In 2002 González went to GD Racing in the World Series by Nissan and was 22nd in the drivers' championship.

In 2003 González returned to North America and initially received a cockpit at Dale Coyne Racing for the season opener of the Champ Car World Series . He then lost the cockpit to Alex Yoong . In the further course of the season he represented Roberto Moreno in the Mexican race, the Gran Premio Telmex-Gigante , at Herdez Competition . After a long break, González returned to motorsport in 2012. For RSR Racing he took part in three races of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). In addition, he represented his brother Ricardo at Greaves Motorsport in a race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 2012 .
