The 4 Hours of Silverstone 2019, 2nd race , also 4 Hours of Silverstone and RAC Tourist Trophy 2019 , took place on the Silverstone Circuit and was the first race of the FIA World Endurance Championship 2019/20 . The Silverstone 4-hour race was held twice in 2019. On August 31, the vehicles of the European Le Mans Series started at the 4-hour race of Silverstone 2019, 1st race , one day later, on September 1, the vehicles of the FIA World Endurance Championship drove out their race .

Before the race

For the first race of the 2019/20 World Endurance Championship, which has been changed into a winter season, 31 vehicles were entered on the entry list. In the first free practice, the Frenchman Norman Nato was able to set the fastest time ahead of the factory Toyotas in the privately used Rebellion R13. In the two following trainings, however, the Toyotas achieved the top positions again, as expected.

The qualifying session started on Saturday with the vehicles of the two Gran Turismo classes. In the LMGTE-Pro class there was a double pole for the Ferraris. James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi secured pole position in front of their teammates Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina. In the LMGTE-Am class, the Aston Martin Vantage AMR, entered by TF Sport, achieved the best starting position ahead of Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR. This was followed by the qualifying session for the Le Mans prototypes. Giedo van der Garde and Job van Uitert achieved the best starting position in the Oreca 07 in front of the same vehicle from the United Motorsport team. In the LMP1 class, Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway took pole position in the Toyota TS050 Hybrid, ahead of the Toyota sister vehicle. The best privately used LMP1 prototype was the Rebellion R13, driven by Gustavo Menezes and Bruno Senna.

The race

At the start of the second 4-hour race this weekend, 30 vehicles were on the grid; the Porsche from Team Project 1 with the number 57 had to start from the pit lane due to a clutch damage during practice. The race started when the weather was still dry. On the second lap of the race, the United Autosports Team's Oreca 07 stopped with smoke development, which led to the safety car being used for the first time. The race was reopened six laps later. The number 6 Ginetta G60-LT-P1 lost a rear wheel on lap 15. The vehicle fell back to the end of the field. After 90 minutes of racing it started to rain. In the wet the AF Corse Ferrari collided with the number 71 and could not restart the race.

The constantly changing weather conditions repeatedly resulted in unscheduled pit stops for the teams in order to adapt the tires to the weather. The race won Conway, Kobayashi and López in the Toyota TS050 ahead of their teammates Buemi, Nakajima and Hartley; Third was the Rebellion R13, driven by Berthon, Durani and Duval. The winner in the LMP2 class was the Oreca 07 from the Cool Racing Team ahead of the Alpine A470 from the Signatech Alpine Elf Team. Porsche achieved a double victory in the LMGTE Pro class, Bruni and Lietz placed in front of the sister vehicle, driven by Christensen and Estre. The LMGTE-Am class was won by AF Corse Ferrari with the number 83.
