Thomas Flohr
Thomas Flohr (born March 17, 1960 in St. Moritz ) is a Swiss businessman and racing driver , as well as the founder and chairman of the private airline VistaJet. In March 2018, the business magazine Forbes stated its personal wealth at 2.3 billion US dollars. In March 2019 he disappeared from this list again.
Early years
Flohr was born in Switzerland in 1960 as the son of a teacher . After finishing school, he applied unsuccessfully to Lufthansa in Hamburg for training as a pilot . He also studied economics and political science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .
Entrepreneur
From 1985 until the early 2000s, he worked in finance at technology company Comdisco. In 1995 he became the chairman of the company's European division, and from 1999 he was the global president of the finance division. He later bought most of Comdisco's European operations through his Switzerland-based Comprendium Investment group, which he still controls.
In 2003 he bought his first Bombardier Learjet 60 .
In 2016, Flohr, who spends more than 800 hours in the air every year, was named Entrepreneur of the Year by The Living Legends of Aviation.
Personal
He currently lives in St. Moritz , Switzerland. One of his greatest hobbies is racing. For example, he competes in the East African Safari Rally, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship . He is also a sponsor of Scuderia Ferrari . He also likes to collect art, for example by the artists Jeff Koons , Keith Haring and Sterling Ruby .
Flohr was married to Katharina Flohr (née Konecny), the former creative director of the House of Fabergé and author of Russian Vogue. The two have a daughter, Nina, who was a former board member of VistaJet.
