The district of Mollebamba is located in the province of Santiago de Chuco in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on August 3, 1920. It has an area of ​​69.3 km². The 2017 census counted 1,834 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1419, in 2007 it was 1955. The district administration is located in the 3054  m high village of Mollebamba with 496 inhabitants (as of 2017). Mollebamba is located 22 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Santiago de Chuco . In the extreme northeast of the district are the Minas La Victoria.

Geographical location

The Mollebamba district is located on the western flank of the Western Peruvian Cordillera in the east of the Santiago de Chuco province. The Río Angasmarca drains the area south to the Río Tablachaca .

The district of Mollebamba borders in the southwest and in the west on the district Angasmarca , in the north on the districts Cachicadán and Sitabamba and in the east on the district Mollepata .
