The district of Santa Cruz de Chuca is located in the province of Santiago de Chuco in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was established on February 20, 1959. It has an area of ​​163 km². The 2017 census counted 3,029 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3256, in 2007 it was 3228. The district administration is located in the 2924  m high town of Santa Cruz de Chuca with 618 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santa Cruz de Chuca is located 4.5 km northeast of the provincial capital Santiago de Chuco .

Geographical location

The district of Santa Cruz de Chuca is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the center of the province of Santiago de Chuco. The district is bounded by the Río Huaychaca and Río Tablachaca to the west and south-east.

The Santa Cruz de Chuca district is bordered to the west by the district of Santiago de Chuco , in the north of the district Cachicadan , on the east by the district Angasmarca and on the south by the districts of Pallasca and Bolognesi (both in the province of Pallasca ).
