The district of Cachicadán is located in the province of Santiago de Chuco in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on November 3, 1900. It has an area of ​​270 km². The 2017 census counted 5850 inhabitants. In 1993, the population was 4,709, in 2007 the 6,663th The district administration is in the 2884  m high altitude town Cachicadan with 2,715 inhabitants (2017). Cachicadán is located 6 km northeast of the provincial capital Santiago de Chuco . In the far southeast of the district is the Mundo Nuevo Mine.

Geographical location

The district of Cachicadán is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the province of Santiago de Chuco. The Río Huaychaca, a right tributary of the Río Tablachaca , flows south along the western district boundary .

The district of Cachicadán borders in the west on the district Quiruvilca , in the north on the district Huamachuco ( province Sánchez Carrión ), in the northeast on the district Sarín (also in the province Sánchez Carrión), in the east on the districts Sitabamba , Mollebamba and Angasmarca as well as in South to the Santa Cruz de Chuca district .
