The province of Santiago de Chuco is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . It has an area of 2658.96 km². At the 2017 census, 50,896 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 52,991, in 2007 it was 58,320. The administrative seat is the city of Santiago de Chuco .
Geographical location
The province of Santiago de Chuco is located in the central east of the La Libertad region, around 90 km east of the city of Trujillo in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The province has a longitudinal extension in west-east direction of about 70 km. In the east the province extends to the Río Marañón . The Río Tablachaca , right tributary of the Río Santa, runs along the southeastern provincial border .
The province of Santiago de Chuco borders in the north with the province Sánchez Carrión , in the east with the province Pataz , in the south with the province Pallasca ( region Ancash ), in the south-west with the province Virú , in the west with the province Julcán and in the north-west with the Otuzco Province .
