The Pataz Province is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . It has an area of 4226.5 km². In the 2017 census, 76,103 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 78,383. The administrative seat is the small town of Tayabamba .
Geographical location
The province of Pataz is located in the far east of the La Libertad region 175 km east of the city of Trujillo in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The province has a longitudinal extension in NNW-SSE direction of about 110 km. The Río Marañón River runs along the western provincial border.
The province of Pataz borders the province of Bolívar in the north, the San Martín region in the east, the Huánuco region in the southeast, the Ancash region in the southwest and the provinces of Santiago de Chuco and Sánchez Carrión in the northwest .
