The Ascope province is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The province was founded in 1984. It has an area of 2655.75 km². At the 2017 census, 115,786 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 108,976, in 2007 116,229. The administrative seat is the city of Ascope .
Geographical location
The province of Ascope is located 30 km north-northwest of the city of Trujillo in the arid coastal region of Peru. It extends over an approximately 45 km wide stretch of coast on the Pacific coast in the northwest of the La Libertad region. The province extends up to 64 km inland. The Chicama River flows through the province in a west-southwest direction. Inland the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise .
The province of Ascope borders in the northwest with the province Pacasmayo , in the northeast with the province Contumazá ( region Cajamarca ), in the east with the provinces Gran Chimú and Otuzco and in the southeast with the province Trujillo .
