Location of the districts

The province of Chepén is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The province was founded in 1984. It has an area of ​​1142.43 km². In the 2017 census, 78,418 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 59,167, in 2007 75,980. The administrative seat is the city of Chepén .

Geographical location

The province of Chepén is located about 115 km north-northwest of the city of Trujillo in the arid coastal region of Peru. It extends over an approximately 15 km wide stretch of coast on the Pacific coast in the extreme northwest of the La Libertad region. The province extends up to 40 km inland. The Río Jequetepeque flows part of the way along the southern provincial border. Inland the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise .

The province of Chepén borders in the north with the province Chiclayo ( region Lambayeque ), in the east with the provinces San Miguel and Contumazá (both in the region Cajamarca ) and in the south with the province Pacasmayo .
