The Chiclayo Province is one of three provinces in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The province has an area of 3288.07 km². At the 2017 census, 799,675 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 617,881, in 2007 757,452. The provincial administration is located in the city of Chiclayo .
Geographical location
The province of Chiclayo is located in the south of the Lambayeque region. It extends over an approximately 45 km long stretch of coast of the Pacific Ocean in a NW-SE direction. The province extends about 65 km inland. This is where the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise . The Río Reque , the left arm of the Río Chancay , and the Río Zaña cross the province in a westerly direction.
The province of Chiclayo borders in the northwest with the province Lambayeque , in the north with the province Ferreñafe , in the east with the provinces Chota , Santa Cruz and San Miguel (all in the region Cajamarca ) and in the south with the province Chepén ( region La Libertad ).
Administrative division
The province of Chiclayo is divided into 20 districts (distritos) . The Chiclayo district is the seat of the provincial administration.
