The Saña district , alternative spelling Zaña district , is located in the Chiclayo province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . It extends over an area of ​​314 km². The 2017 census counted 12,197 inhabitants. Ten years earlier the population was 12,013. The district administration is seated in the 46  m high town of Zaña with 4550 inhabitants (as of 2017). Zaña is located 33 km southeast of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The Saña district is located in the central southwest of the Chiclayo province. The Río Zaña crosses the southeast of the district. The Río Reque, the southern estuary of the Río Chancay , flows west along the northern district boundary . Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the rivers. In the west of the district is desert.

The Saña district is bordered to the west by the district Reque , to the north by the districts Pomalca , Tumán and Púčala , on the east by the district Cayalti , in the extreme southeast of the district Pacanga ( province Chepén ) and in the south by the district Lagunas .
