The district of Oyotún is located in the province of Chiclayo in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on November 23, 1925. It extends over an area of 487 km². The 2017 census counted 8,528 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 10,452, in 2007 it was 9954. The district administration is located in the 209 m high town of Oyotún with 5918 inhabitants (as of 2017). Oyotún is located 60 km east-southeast of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .
Geographical location
The district of Oyotún is located in the east of the province of Chiclayo. The Río Zaña crosses the south of the district in a westerly direction. The foothills of the Western Cordillera rise in the north of the district . Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the river valley of the Río Zaña.
The district of Oyotún borders in the west on the district Cayaltí , in the northwest on the districts Pucalá and Chongoyape , in the north on the district Llama ( province Chota ), in the northeast on the district Catache ( province Santa Cruz ), in the southeast on the districts La Florida , Niepos and Nanchoc (all three in the province of San Miguel ) and in the southwest to the district of Nueva Arica .
