The Cayaltí district is located in the Chiclayo Province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was formed on January 29, 1998 from parts of the Saña district. It extends over an area of ​​164 km². The 2017 census counted 15,354 residents. Ten years earlier the population was 16,557. The seat of the district administration is the 78  m high town Cayaltí with 12,688 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cayaltí is located about 35 km southeast of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The Cayaltí district is located in the central south of the Chiclayo province. The Río Zaña crosses the district in a westerly direction. Irrigated agriculture is used.

The Cayaltí district borders in the southwest and northwest with the Saña district, in the north with the Pucalá district , in the northeast with the Oyotún district , in the southeast with the Nueva Arica district and in the south with the Pacanga district ( Chepén province ).
