The district of Chiclayo is located in the province of Chiclayo in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​50.35 km². The 2017 census counted 270,496 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 239,887, in 2007 260,948. The seat of the district administration is the 29  m high regional and provincial capital Chiclayo with 270,208 inhabitants (as of 2017). The city is practically congruent with the district.

The district of Chiclayo is located in the coastal plain of northwestern Peru 12 km from the Pacific Ocean in the northwest of the province of Chiclayo. In the southeast the district extends to the north bank of the Río Chancay (also Río Reque). This flows 8 km south of the city center to the west to the sea. In the east of the district is the airport of Chiclayo (Spanish Aeropuerto Internacional Capitán FAP José A. Quiñones ).

The district of Chiclayo borders in the southwest with the district La Victoria , in the west with the district Pimentel , in the north with the district José Leonardo Ortiz , in the east with the district Pomalca and in the southeast with the district Monsefú .
