The district of Pucalá is located in the province of Chiclayo in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was formed on January 29, 1998 from parts of the Saña district. It extends over an area of ​​175 km². The 2017 census counted 8,927 inhabitants. Ten years earlier, the population was 9272. The district administration is located in the 82  m high town of Pucalá with 6559 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pucalá is about 25 km east of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The Pucalá district is centrally located in the Chiclayo province. The Río Reque, southern branch of the mouth of the Río Chancay , crosses the north-western part of the district. The Río Lambayeque, the northern canalised estuary of the Río Chancay, flows along the northern district boundary to the west. The dry valley of the Quebrada de Agua Salada forms the south-eastern part of the district. Irrigated agriculture is used.

The Pucalá district borders in the southwest on the Saña district, in the west on the Tumán district , in the northwest on the Pátapo district , in the northeast on the Chongoyape district , in the southeast on the Oyotún district and in the central south on the Cayaltí district .
