The Nueva Arica district is located in the Chiclayo Province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on January 25, 1944. It extends over an area of ​​211 km². The 2017 census counted 2,473 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2662, in 2007 it was 2420. The district administration is located in the 205  m high village of Nueva Arica with 1792 inhabitants (as of 2017). Nueva Arica is located about 55 km east-southeast of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The Nueva Arica district is located in the southeast of the Chiclayo province. The Río Zaña and its left tributary, the Río de Nanchoc, flow westwards along the northern district boundary. Irrigated agriculture is carried out along these. The foothills of the Western Cordillera rise in the south .

The Nueva Arica district is bordered to the west by the district Cayalti , on the north by the district Oyotun , on the east by the district Nanchoc ( province of San Miguel ) and in the south by the district Pacanga ( province Chepén ).
