The Reque district is located in the Chiclayo province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 47.03 km². The 2017 census counted 15,744 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 9,483, in 2007 it was 12,606. The district administration is located in the small town of Reque, 22 m high on the south bank of the Río Chancay (also Río Reque), with 8747 inhabitants (as of 2017). Reque is 10 km south of the city center of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .
The Reque district is located in the coastal plain of northwestern Peru south of the city of Chiclayo in the west of the Chiclayo province. The Río Chancay flows west along the northwestern district boundary. A hill up to 578 m high rises to the east . Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the northwest. Otherwise the area is dominated by desert landscape. The expanded national road 1S ( Panamericana ) crosses the north of the district and then runs along the southwestern district border to the south.
The Reque district borders in the northwest on the Monsefú district , in the northeast on the Pomalca district , in the east on the Saña district and in the south on the Eten district .
