The district of Pátapo is located in the province of Chiclayo in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was formed on January 29, 1998 from parts of the Saña district. It extends over an area of ​​184 km². The 2017 census counted 23,715 inhabitants. Ten years earlier the population was 20,876. The seat of the district administration is the 118  m high town of Pátapo with 17,326 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pátapo is on the Taymi Canal, an irrigation canal that branches off from the Chancay River to the north, 23 km east-northeast of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The district of Pátapo is located in the central north of the province of Chiclayo. The Río Lambayeque, the northern canalized estuary of the Río Chancay, flows along the southern district boundary to the west. Irrigated agriculture is used.

The Pátapo district is bordered to the west by the district Tumán , in the northwest on the district Manuel Antonio Mesones Muro ( province Ferreñafe ), in the northeast on the district Chongoyape and the south by the district Púčala .
