The Lambayeque Province is one of three provinces in the Lambayeque Region in northwestern Peru . The province has an area of 9,364.63 km². At the 2017 census, 300,170 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 210,537, in 2007 it was 259,274. The provincial administration is located in the city of Lambayeque .
Geographical location
The province of Lambayeque is located in the north of the Lambayeque region. It extends over an approximately 93 km long stretch of coast of the Pacific Ocean in WNW-ESE direction. The province extends about 107 km inland. This is where the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise . The Río Mórrope crosses the province in a south-westerly direction. The coastal desert extends over the northwest of the province.
The province of Lambayeque borders the Piura region in the north, the Cajamarca region in the east, the Ferreñafe province in the southeast and the Chiclayo province in the south .
Administrative division
The province of Lambayeque is divided into twelve districts (distritos) . The district of Lambayeque is the seat of the provincial administration.
