The district of Chóchope , alternative spelling: District Chochope , is located in the province of Lambayeque in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on October 11, 1909. It has an area of ​​77.3 km². The 2017 census counted 1469 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1465, in 2007 it was 1231. The district administration is located in the 215  m high village of Chóchope with 457 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chóchope is 65 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Lambayeque and 72 km north-northeast of the regional capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The Chóchope district is located in the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the east of the Lambayeque province. The lengthwise extension in east-west direction is 15.5 km, the maximum width 8 km. The River Chochope, a left tributary of the Río Motupe, crosses the district to the west.

The Chóchope district is bordered to the south, the west and the north by the district Motupe and the east by the district Salas .
