The Lambayeque District is located in the province of Lambayeque the Lambayeque region in northwest Peru . The district founded on February 12, 1821 has an area of 332.73 km². At the 2017 census there were 71,425 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 45,090, in 2007 63,386. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Lambayeque .
Geographical location
The Lambayeque District is located in the south of the Lambayeque Province. It has an approximately 20 km long stretch of coast on the Pacific coast . Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the vicinity of the city of Lambayeque. Otherwise there is desert vegetation.
The district of Lambayeque borders in the northwest on the district Mórrope , in the north on the district Mochumí , in the east on the district Pueblo Nuevo ( province Ferreñafe ), in the southeast on the districts Picsi and José Leonardo Ortiz (both in the province Chiclayo ) as well as the San José District .
