Geographical location
The Olmos District extends over the northwest and north of the Lambayeque Province. The city of Olmos is located about 90 km north of the regional capital Chiclayo . The Olmos district is largely located in the arid coastal desert of northwestern Peru and extends in the west to the Pacific coast . The foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise in the far east . The rivers Río Cascajal and Río Olmos cross the district in a westerly direction, but do not reach the sea due to water abstraction to irrigate agricultural areas. The Río Olmos also receives water from the east side of the Andes, which is derived from the Limón dam on the Río Huancabamba . The highway from Lambayeque to Chulucanas passes Olmos.
The district of Olmos borders in the northwest on the districts of Sechura ( province of Sechura ) and Catacaos ( province of Piura ), in the north on the districts of La Matanza and Salitral (both in the province of Morropón ), in the east on the district of Huarmaca ( province of Huancabamba ) and in South to the districts of Salas , Motupe , Jayanca , Pacora and Mórrope .
