The Limón Dam (Spanish: Presa Limón ) is located on the Huancabamba River in the Cajamarca region of northern Peru . The dam was built as part of the Olmos irrigation project 2006–2009. The 43 m high and 320 m long stone embankment dam with concrete cover (CFR dam) dams the river over a length of up to 8 km. The storage volume is 44 million m³.
Olmos irrigation project
A nearly 20 km long tunnel ( ⊙ ) leads from the Limón dam to the west side of the Andes . The tunnel went into operation in 2014. Since then, part of the river water (400 million m³ annually) has been diverted into the catchment area of the Río Olmos . It is to be used there to generate energy and to irrigate up to 43,500 hectares of agricultural land in the Lambayeque region . In 2016, Odebrecht Latinvest sold its concessions on the project to Brookfield Infrastructure and Suez .
