The Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (CNO) ( German : Bauunternehmen Norberto Odebrecht ) is a construction company founded in 1944 by Norberto Odebrecht in Salvador da Bahia .

It is the largest engineering and construction company in Latin America and the second largest private company in Brazil . Odebrecht is one of the largest construction companies in the world and has an average annual turnover of around 35 billion US dollars . The group generates 70% of its sales abroad. In 2009 the company was split into six independent companies. It has been run in the third generation since 2002 by General Manager Marcelo Odebrecht .

In the crisis-ridden 1990s , Odebrecht built dams , bridges and subways , especially in the USA and Europe , and looked for natural resources in Africa because there were no orders at home. It also participates in urban development projects, for example in Luanda , Angola , as well as holiday resorts as well as in the oil and gas sector and also in Angolan-Namibian power plant projects . The company also supports small and medium-sized Brazilian companies through partnerships. In Europe, CNO has a stake in a Portuguese construction company in Portugal and was significantly involved in the construction of the Vasco da Gama bridge , which opened in 1998 .

As part of the Odebrecht Group, Construtora Norberto Odebrecht works on a large number of projects around the world and builds, among other things, highways , airports , sewage and irrigation systems . The company is best known for the construction of hydropower plants and dams. Today Odebrecht is the leading real estate developer in Latin America, building stadiums , airports , highways, subways and entire cities. In Brazil, the company also wants to become an arms company . In numerous joint ventures , it also builds shipyards for submarines, among other things .

In October 2010 Construtora Norberto Odebrecht received the Global Family Business Award from the International Institute for Management Development , an award for “Best Global Family Company”.
