Norberto Odebrecht

Norberto Odebrecht (born October 9, 1920 in Recife ; † July 19, 2014 in Salvador da Bahia ) was a Brazilian engineer , businessman and founder of the Odebrecht construction company . He studied at the Polytechnic School of Bahia and founded a construction company in 1944, from which the Odebrecht Group in Salvador da Bahia emerged. He was the son of the pioneer Emílio Odebrecht and a great-grandson of the German Emil Odebrecht, who emigrated to Brazil in 1856 .

Over time, the family business has grown into an international conglomerate , Grupo Odebrecht , which employs around 79,000 people in 24 countries (as of 2019).
