Ruedi treasure

Ruedi Schatz (born February 20, 1925 in St. Gallen ; † May 13, 1979 in Herisau ) was a Swiss politician , banker and mountaineer .

Life

Treasure studied at the Graduate School of St. Gallen and at the University of Zurich German and received his doctorate in 1954. After working in the industry he was starting from 1969 a partner in the bank Wegelin & Co.

He was President of the Free Democratic Party of the Canton of St. Gallen , which he represented in the National Council from 1975 to 1979 . As co-founder and first president of the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Protection and Conservation, he campaigned for a balance between economic order and environmental protection.

As a mountaineer, Schatz was co-founder and president of the Alpstein climbing club and a member of the Zurich Academic Alpine Club , with which he took part in an expedition to Dhaulagiri in 1953 . He led the 1959 expedition to the Peruvian Andes, organized by the KCA and the Swiss Alpine Club , which was very successful with 19 five and six thousand meter peaks, some of which were first climbed. With Ernst Reiss and Erich Haltiner he managed a new route on the northeast face of the Gspaltenhorn in the Bernese Oberland.

Ruedi Schatz died in a canoe accident in the Urnäsch river .
