The Alpstein KCA climbing club , founded in 1948, was one of the first associations of extreme mountaineers in Switzerland .

history

On November 27, 1948, some extreme mountaineers from eastern Switzerland founded the Alpstein climbing club on Schwägalp . The initiator and first president was Kurt Gurtner . "The sense and purpose will always be the camaraderie of those climbers who enjoy our native mountains and more difficult tours," wrote the second president and later National Councilor Ruedi Schatz . Anyone wishing to join the club must have an impressive alpine biography.

When it was founded, rock climbing in Switzerland was not yet of a high standard. " Climbing in the higher levels of difficulty was not encouraged in the SAC either," writes Wisi Fleischmann in the commemorative publication for the 50th anniversary of the KCA.

But that changed quickly. Members such as Seth Abderhalden , Franz Anderrüthi , Franz Bossert , Peter Diener , Paul Etter , Wisi Fleischmann , Hansi Frommenwiler , Ernst Forrer , Ueli Gantenbein , Max Niedermann , Albin Schelbert , Geny Steiger and others excelled with the most difficult first ascents and repetitions in the entire Alpine region .

The members Peter Diener, Ernst Forrer and Albin Schelbert were among the Erstbesteigern of Dhaulagiri on May 13, 1960th

In 1959, the KCA, together with the SAC, organized an expedition to the Peruvian Andes, which was very successful with 19 five- and six-thousanders, some of which were first climbed, over some difficult routes.
