Franz Anderrüthi (born March 3, 1931 in Schwyz ; † February 27, 2020 in Scuol ) was a Swiss mountaineer and mountain guide . He was a pioneer of extreme climbing in Switzerland.

Life

Franz Anderrüthi grew up in Schwyz and learned to be a painter. In 1946 he began to climb, first of all in local myths . He made contact with the elite of Swiss extreme climbers in the Alpstein KCA climbing club . His active time as a climber lasted over 40 years, with a hundred first ascents . Its hooks with the initial FA, which can still be found on classic routes today, are legendary. The first ascent of the south-east face of the twin tower on Salbitschijen in 1956 attracted a great deal of attention. Today's classic in the upper Vth grade was the first modern granite climbing route in Switzerland.

Franz Anderrüthi was able to take part in the 1959 expedition to the Peruvian Andes, organized by the KCA and the Swiss Alpine Club , where, among other things, he managed the third ascent of Pumasillo .

In 1963 he obtained his license as a mountain guide, and he mainly worked during the summer months. He worked on a new edition of the Mythen climbing guide in 1966. As a cross-country skier, he took part in Swiss championships several times.

After his retirement, Franz Anderrüthi lived in Ramosch in the Engadine . He died in 2020 in the health center in Scuol.
