Kurt Grüter (mountaineer)

Kurt Grüter (born August 10, 1937 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss mountaineer , pioneer of extreme climbing in Switzerland.

Life

Kurt Grüter came to the mountains early with his father and became an excellent climber and alpinist when he was young. He trained as a mechanic and later worked as a pharmaceutical businessman. Between 1956 and 1976, he and various partners made 26 first ascents of difficult routes, especially in the rock, in Central Switzerland , in the Bernese Oberland and in the Rätikon .

1961 he succeeded with Sepp Inwyler the 20th ascent of the Eiger North Face , 1962, the Walker pillar of the Grandes Jorasses .

Kurt Grüter is a founding member of the Alpina mountaineering group .

He lives in Obfelden and has devoted himself mainly to hang gliding in recent years .

  • October 13, 1957: Laucherenstock ( Engelberg ) south face with Franz Anderrüthi.
  • August 6, 1959: Salbitschijen west ridge, tower 2 south-east pillar with Wisi Fleischmann.
  • 5th July 1959: Bockmattli Plattenkopf north-west face with Wisi Fleischmann.
  • August 16, 1959: Twin tower on Salbitschijen Ostpfeiler, "Villigerpfeiler", with Fritz Villiger .
  • July 25, 1960: Geissstock southeast pillar with Franz Anderrüthi.
  • 1960 Seewenstock ( Urner Alps ) south face with Franz Anderrüthi.
  • July 6, 1962 Grosshorn (Bernese Oberland) west summit north face with Fritz Villiger.
  • 1964 Gross Büelenhorn ( Furkapass ) west pillar with Fritz Villiger.
  • 1968 Salbitschijen west ridge, tower 4 Direct south wall with Ruedi Bollier.
  • 1971 Schlossberg west face with Gery Egloff.
  • 1973 Stäfelstock north face with Walter Müller and Erwin Saxer.
  • 1974 Wiss-Stöckli Ostwand ( Brunnital ) with Walter Müller.
  • October 10, 1976 Lauchernstock Via Isabella with Hansruedi Gasser and Hans Howald.
