Gottfried Riehm (born March 6, 1858 in Mannheim , † April 25, 1928 in Halle (Saale) ; full name: Gottfried Heinrich Ferdinand Riehm ) was a German high school teacher who went down in the local history of the city of Halle as an amateur photographer .

The son of the theologian Eduard Riehm and his wife Elise Riehm born. Löschcke attended the Stadtgymnasium Halle and passed Michaelis (September 29th) 1876 as high school graduate No. 64 the final exam .

From 1876 to 1881 he studied mathematics and natural sciences in Halle, Berlin, Leipzig and again in Halle. In 1881 the doctorate to Dr. phil. under his father's rectorate at the University of Halle .

After the teaching examination in 1883, Riehm worked as an assistant teacher (1883/84), scientific assistant teacher (1884/86) and from April 1, 1886 as a regular teacher until his retirement (1923) at the Stadtgymnasium Halle (1886 senior teacher, December 1903 Award of the title of professor). Since the city high school was founded in April 1868, he had been a pupil for eight and a half years and later a teacher for 40 years at this higher educational institution, which is important for Halle.

Riehm also became known as a photographer, especially in Halle. His pictures show the city, which has changed a lot during his life span, with its houses, people and vehicles. The city archives keep over 600 glass plate negatives and organized several exhibitions, also illustrated books and postcards were printed.

Gottfried Riehm gave lectures about the old hall as well as about science and Christianity. For 35 years (1890–1925) he was Rendant (accounting officer) of the parishes of St. Laurentius and St. Stephanus.

His grave in the Laurentiusfriedhof in Halle is one of the graves of honor there.

family

Gottfried Riehm married Marie Luise Wilhelmine Jellinghaus on July 4, 1889 in Giebichenstein , today part of Halle (* June 7, 1867 in Smyrna, today Izmir ; † July 28, 1958 in Halle). She was the eldest daughter of the businessman Carl Jellinghaus and his wife Rosa Jellinghaus geb. Braunbehrens. From this marriage there were seven children. The sons were also students at the city high school. His son Karl (* May 16, 1891; † September 2, 1983) was a general practitioner in Halle-Giebichenstein from 1921 to 1980 . He published scientific papers on prehistoric salt production.
