The Alpina mountaineering group (BGA) was founded in 1956 and is an association of extreme mountaineers in Switzerland .

history

On 24./25. In November 1956, seven extreme mountaineers from central Switzerland founded the Alpina mountaineering group in the Brunnihütte near Engelberg . The first president was Max Eiselin , founder of the first mountain sports shop in Switzerland and leader of the expedition that made the first ascent of Dhaulagiri in 1960 . Other founding members with a large number of first ascents were a. Kurt Grüter and Sepp Inwyler . Women were also accepted. The members later included u. a. also the top mountaineer Marcel Rüedi , who died in 1986 on Makalu .

One of the aims of the association was to set up a rescue system for accidents in extreme terrain, since helicopter rescue operations were still unknown at the time. The occasion was the death of a friend shortly before in the Wellhorn Southeast Face. The BGA was able to carry out spectacular rescue operations, e.g. B. in the north face of the Bockmattli . Members had to and must submit their tour list every year and thus prove that they have a high alpine level. Today the requirements are no longer as strict as some veterans have gotten old. However, the BGA still regularly conducts rescue courses, rehabilitates climbing routes and deals with safety in climbing. Social events, the exchange of information and tours together are also important.
