The Nevado Huandoy is located in the Peruvian Andes and is the second highest mountain in the Cordillera Blanca after the Nevado Huascarán . The two mountains are also geographically very close, so the two mountain ranges are only separated from each other by the valley of the Quebrada Llanganuco with the lakes Lagunas Llanganuco (3846 m).
location
The mountain range is 16 km east of the city of Caraz on the border of the two provinces of Huaylas and Yungay in the Ancash region . The Huandoy is located in the Huascarán National Park . The glaciated mountain is at the end of a ridge that branches off from the main ridge of the Cordillera Blanca towards the west-southwest. The ridge is flanked by the river valleys of the Río Parón in the north and the Quebrada Llanganuco in the south. To the east, the closest peak is the Nevado Pisco.
The mountain has four peaks, each over 6000 m high:
- Huandoy main peak (6395 m)
- Huandoy West Summit (6356 m, ⊙ )
- Huandoy South Summit (6160 m, ⊙ )
- Huandoy East Summit (6070 m, ⊙ )
