Seth Abderhalden

Seth Abderhalden (born January 18, 1926 in Nesslau ; † November 20, 1960 in a slab of snow in the Säntis area ) was a Swiss mountaineer and pioneer of extreme climbing in Switzerland.

Life

"Seth Abderhalden was one of the best and toughest mountaineers in Europe in the 1950s," writes mountaineer and politician Ruedi Schatz in an obituary. «He lived for the mountains. All his senses were focused on it and his whole way of life was determined by them. "

Abderhalden mastered the most difficult Dolomite and Mont-Blanc faces of its time. a. the north face of the western pinnacle, the west face of the Drus, the Sentinelle Rouge on Mont Blanc . In the Alpstein , in the Rätikon , in the Churfirsten and in the Bernese Alps , he achieved over 30 mostly extremely difficult first ascents. Seth Abderhalden was a member of the Alpstein KCA climbing club and took part in the 1959 expedition to the Peruvian Andes, organized by the KCA and the Swiss Alpine Club , where, among other things , he succeeded in climbing the highest peak in Peru , the Pumasillo . On November 20, he died in a slab on the ascent from Schwägalp to Tierwies in the Säntis area .
