Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd. ( GAIG ) is a Chinese industrial conglomerate founded in 2000 with a focus on automotive engineering , named - as so often in China - after its headquarters in Guangzhou . The industrial group is the parent company of the Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (often better known by its abbreviation GAC ), the largest automobile manufacturer in southern China.

The industrial conglomerate was founded on June 8th, 2000 with the incorporation of two company networks. The two company networks were the "Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd." and the Guangzhou Motors Group Company, formerly the "Guangzhou Wuyang Group Company". This union has been authorized and supported by the Guangdong provincial government as well as the Guangzhou city authorities.

Some corporate activities

The industrial group is a Chinese joint venture partner for the Japanese companies Honda GAIG and Toyota ; It has production sites that produce separate model versions of these Japanese manufacturers for the Chinese market, which are widely accepted by the market in southern China.

In the city of Guangzhou, the company operates joint ventures with Honda (for example for the small car model “ Honda City ”) and with Toyota. Chassis and engines were purchased from Fiat (with reference to the “ Alfa 166 ” model). A joint venture with Mitsubishi , which focuses on the production of pick-ups and SUVs , has also been started and led to its implementation in October 2012.

In short, GAIG and its partners hold shares in the following joint venture companies, which have been founded for the purpose of cooperation with them:
