The Catacaos District is located in the province of Piura of Piura Region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 2531 km². At the 2017 census, there were 75,870 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 54,117, in 2007 66,308. The administrative seat is the city of Catacaos on the east bank of the Río Piura . The city is located 9.5 km southwest of the center of Piura . In the east of the district there is a desert landscape.
Geographical location
The Catacaos district stretches across the Piura province. It includes the southern part of the Piura metropolitan area. In the west the district borders on the district of Miguel Checa ( province of Sullana ), in the north on the districts of Veintiséis de Octubre , Piura and Castilla . In the east, the district borders on the districts of Chulucanas and La Matanza (both in the province of Morropón ), in the southeast on the district of Olmos ( province of Lambayeque ), in the south on the districts of Sechura and Cristo Nos Valga (both in the province of Sechura ) and El Tallán , Cura Mori and La Arena .
