The Piura District is located in the province of Piura of Piura Region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 330.32 km². At the 2017 census, 158,495 people lived in the district. The administrative seat is the regional capital Piura . The southwestern part of what was then the Piura district was detached on January 15, 2013 and now forms the Veintiséis de Octubre district .
Geographical location
The Piura District is located in the central west of the Piura Province. The Río Piura River runs along the eastern district boundary. The district has a lengthwise extension in north-south direction of about 24 km and a maximum width of about 15 km. In the southeast of the district is the city of Piura, the center of the Piura metropolitan area. In the west of the district there is desert. There the national road 1N runs north to Sullana .
The district of Piura borders in the south on the district Catacaos , in the west on the district Veintiséis de Octubre, in the northwest and north on the province Sullana , in the northeast on the district Tambogrande and in the east on the district Castilla .
